Setup

Getting Started with IntBooks

Set up your IntBooks account, complete the onboarding wizard, and issue your first compliant invoice in under 15 minutes. Step-by-step setup for Malaysian businesses.

This guide walks you through your first 15 minutes with IntBooks — from sign-up to issuing your first LHDN-compliant invoice.

What you’ll need

Before you start, gather:

  • SSM business registration number (the 12-digit company number, not the old format)
  • LHDN TIN (Tax Identification Number) — printed on your tax assessment notice
  • Bank account details for one of the following: Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Hong Leong, AmBank
  • MSIC code for your primary business activity (5 digits, on your SSM registration)
  • One sample customer with their TIN, name, and address — you’ll create your first invoice for them

If you don’t have a TIN yet, register at the LHDN MyTax portal — approval takes 5 working days.

Step 1: Sign up

IntBooks is currently in closed beta. Request access — we’ll review and send you a sign-up link if your business is eligible. Once you’re in, the live sign-up at {site.appUrl}/auth/sign-up accepts email + password or Google / Microsoft single sign-on; email verification is automatic and you’ll land in the dashboard within 60 seconds.

Step 2: Run the onboarding wizard

The first time you log in, the organization setup wizard runs automatically. It asks 5 questions:

  1. What’s your business name? (used on invoices and reports)
  2. What’s your business type? (Sdn Bhd, Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLP, etc.)
  3. What industry are you in? (the answer enables industry-specific defaults — restaurants get a POS module, retailers get inventory, professional services get time tracking, etc.)
  4. What’s your fiscal year end? (defaults to 31 December for Malaysian businesses)
  5. Are you SST-registered? (if yes, the SST-02 module enables and your default chart of accounts includes SST liability codes)

Answer each, then click Create Organization. The wizard provisions your tenant, seeds the chart of accounts, and applies industry-specific feature flags. Total time: ~30 seconds.

Step 3: Configure compliance settings

After the wizard, you land on the Settings → Compliance page. Fill in:

  • SSM number (12 digits)
  • LHDN TIN — validated against the LHDN database in real time
  • MSIC code — pick from a dropdown
  • Default currency (defaults to MYR; can be changed per-document)
  • Sales tax / service tax registration number if applicable

These are stored encrypted at rest and used to populate the issuer fields on every e-invoice.

Step 4: Connect a bank account

Navigate to Banking → Accounts and click Add Account. Pick your bank from the dropdown. You’ll be redirected to the bank’s authentication page (OAuth flow) and asked to authorize a read-only connection.

Once connected, the bank starts streaming transactions to IntBooks every 4 hours. Historical transactions for the past 90 days are imported on first connection.

Step 5: Add your first customer

Go to AR/AP → Customers and click Add Customer. Required fields:

  • Name (free text)
  • TIN — validated against LHDN; required for B2B invoices
  • SSM number — optional
  • Email — required for sending invoices
  • Address — required for e-invoice submission
  • Default currency — defaults to MYR

Save. The customer record is now reusable across all future invoices.

Step 6: Issue your first invoice

Navigate to Invoices → New Invoice. Pick the customer you just created. Add line items:

  • Item description (free text)
  • Quantity
  • Unit price
  • SST classification (if SST-registered) — the system suggests the most likely classification based on your business type; you can override

The invoice total calculates automatically with SST applied. Click Issue.

The invoice is now in Draft status. To submit to LHDN MyInvois, click Submit to LHDN. The system signs the payload, transmits to MyInvois, and waits for the UIN. This typically takes 2–5 seconds.

When LHDN returns the UIN, the invoice transitions to Validated. The UIN and a QR code are now on the invoice and visible to your customer in the customer portal.

Step 7: Send the invoice to your customer

Click Send Invoice. IntBooks composes a professional email with the invoice attached as a PDF (containing the LHDN UIN and QR code) and sends it via Resend. The customer can also access the invoice through the secure customer portal — no login required for them.
